As of October 2020, there are 500 licensed black women architects. This is about .5% of approximately 115,000 active US licensed architects. I did not meet another black woman architect until I was in college; there were two teaching at my university. I am committed to helping other black women in architecture meet each other, work together, and support one another.

History
In November 2015, I hosted the first BWA Brunch in Washington DC. Over 30 women attended to enjoy food, fellowship and fun. Read about it here.
A second brunch event was held April 2016 with over 40 attendees. The third BWA Brunch DC took place September 2017. (Flyer) We received so much support from the event that we realized we could use the funds from tickets and sponsors to support each other. Seeking to honor one of our DC BWA after her untimely death, the Desiree Cooper ARE Scholarship was created and the $2,000 raised by the 2017 Brunch seeded the fund to support black women taking their architectural license exams.
In 2020, we are holding the sixth BWA Brunch. Read more about the Brunch Networking Events and learn how you can attend and support.
